We a have a 2008 GMC Envoy Denali that we sold to a customer and part of the agreement was to clean the headliner which was very dirty and could not be cleaned using just a damp rag. the only way to get the headliner clean was to srub it out using a vinyl brush which matted the headliner material leaving little matted balls all over the surface of the headliner which the customer objected to. How can that situation be remedied so the headliner looks smoother and the matted material is no longer present?

[ANSWER]    That is a tough one to fix when the headliner material itself is damaged. The rubbing caused the material to matte up and there is not much chance of getting that out of headliner material once it's done. My best suggestion is to take the headliner board out of the vehicle and cover over the original material with new headliner material. This the the permanent way to fix something like that. Other option is; to try and pick every little matted up ball off one at a time. Replacing the headliner would be much quicker and the outcome will work.
