I have a 1990 Mercedes 300SL. It's hardtop headliner is sagging for a distance of approximately 8" from the front edge. The remainder seems to be firm. Is this something that I could fix, or do I need to go to an upholstery shop. I am fairly handy but no upholstery experience. If I do it do I have to remove the headliner and can you tell me how to do this?

One thing that all automobiles have in common is that the headliner will eventually fall out, no matter how good a car they are; and it sounds like your Mercedes headliner is just getting started. It will eventually come all the way out. I am not famaliar with the 300 SL Mercedes, but there is only one way to replace the headliner in any car, remove it and recover it. To answer the question, can you do it? If you can take the headliner board out of the car, the rest is fairly simple - so the answer would be - yes, you can redo the headliner if you can get the headliner board out of the car.
